2007 "Rev Up Your Rice!" Recipe Contest
Rules and Regulations

 

Eligibility:
"Rev Up Your Rice!" Recipe Contest is open to adults ages 18 or older who are residents of the United States. Employees of the USA Rice Federation, their member organizations, agencies and judging organizations, rice producers and anyone associated with the processing of rice, state and/or national rice organizations and their immediate families and persons living in the same household are not eligible to participate. Those involved in the preparation of food or creation of recipes for pay such as chefs, caterers, food writers, dietitians, home economists and home economics teachers are not eligible to participate. Questions about eligibility requirements will be decided by the USA Rice Federation, and all decisions will be final.

To Enter:

  • Send your original recipe for an appetizer, soup, salad, side dish, entree or dessert that uses one cup of uncooked U.S.-grown rice or (three cups cooked).
  • Recipe must include: recipe title and category, type of rice used, number of servings, list of ingredients with specific quantities (standard U.S. measurements) in order of use, and complete preparation directions including baking/cooking time and temperature.
  • Recipes must not have more than six main ingredients, excluding butter, margarine, cooking oil, water, salt and ground black pepper. Rice is considered a primary ingredient.
  • Preparation and cooking time must be 30 minutes or less.
  • Recipes, along with contestant's name, complete address, phone number and age, must be entered on website or clearly printed or typed on 8 ½ x 11-inch paper (one side only). Include fax number and/or e-mail address if applicable. Each recipe must be submitted on a separate sheet or entered electronically on separate forms.

Beginning March 1, send entries to: "Rev Up Your Rice!" 2007 Recipe Contest, USA Rice Federation c/o Publicis Consultants/PR, 424 2nd Avenue West, Seattle, WA 98119. Or, enter online at www.usarice.com/consumer/contest2007. All entries must be received or postmarked by 11:59 p.m. April 15, 2007. If duplicate recipes are received, the earliest postmarked or e-mailed recipe will be judged. The USA Rice Federation is not responsible for lost, damaged, incomplete, misdirected, postage-due, late or illegible entries. With respect to e-mail entries, the USA Rice Federation is not responsible for computer system, phone line, hardware, software or program malfunctions or other errors, failures, delayed computer transmissions, network connections or entries submitted to addresses other than www.usarice.com/consumer/contest2007.

Rules:
Entries must be original and owned exclusively by the contestant. Original is defined as not previously published in the same or substantially the same form. By submitting a recipe (or recipes) you warrant that to the best of your knowledge, it is your original work and unpublished or it is based on an existing recipe that features four or more significant changes. Contestants are solely responsible for complying with any applicable copyright restrictions, and the USA Rice Federation assumes no obligation in that regard. The judging organization will disqualify any recipes known to have been published previously. By participating, each contestant accepts these rules and agrees to be bound by the decisions of the judges, which will be final. They also agree to return any awards they receive if the warranty proves to be untrue and to indemnify the USA Rice Federation against any and all damages and expenses, including attorney's fees, if any of them suffers on that account.

All entries become the property of the USA Rice Federation; none will be acknowledged or returned. USA Rice Federation and others have the right to publish or advertise the recipe, its name or title and the name of the contestant without added compensation unless prohibited by law. USA Rice Federation has the right to modify recipes or recipe titles.

Recipes not meeting all requirements will be disqualified.

Judging:
Recipes will be judged on the following criteria: taste (40%), ease of preparation (25%), appearance (20%) and creativity (15%). Six finalists, including the "Best Whole Grain Rice Recipe" and one Grand Prize winner will be chosen.

Winner Notification:
Winners will be selected on or about June 1, 2007 and will be notified by phone, email, or mail shortly thereafter. There will be no communication or correspondence with contestants until the finalists have been notified. Public announcement of winners will be made on or about September 1, 2007- National Rice Month. Contest is void where prohibited by law and is subject to all federal, state and local laws. Applicable tax is sole responsibility of winners. Finalists will be required to sign an affidavit verifying the originality of the recipe, and compliance with the contest rules and release for publication within seven days of notification. Failure to return the affidavit will result in disqualification, and an alternate finalist will be selected. Any prize notification returned to the USA Rice Federation as undeliverable will result in awarding of prize to alternate winner.

Prizes:
A total cash value of $11,000 in prizes will be awarded to winning entries. Also, all winners will receive an Aroma 10-cup Sensor Logic Deluxe Rice Cooker. Limit one prize per household. Prizes are not transferable. A total of seven prizes will be awarded as follows:

(1) Grand Prize Winner $5,000

(5) Finalists $1,000

(1) Best Whole Grain Rice Winner $1,000
