Strategic Goal: Gain and maintain meaningful market access in key international markets for all forms and types of U.S. rice.

2010/2011 Initiatives

  • Develop, present and advocate market access and domestic support policies in anticipation of administration re-engagement in Doha Round negotiations. Continue to seek significant gains in U.S. rice market access and preservation of a farm safety net.
  • Vigorously pursue activities with the administration and Congress to ensure compliance of WTO members with trade agreements.  Focus on Taiwan.
  • Develop and implement a strategy for regaining the U.S. market in the EU post LL601.
  • Support congressional approval of existing FTAs (except Korea).
  • If Colombia FTA passes, implement USARF BOD-approved  policy on  distribution of U.S. share of net TRQ  revenue.
  • Work with USDA/APHIS and importers to resolve recurring SPS barriers to U.S. rice.
  • Keep rice market access issues top of mind for U.S. negotiators.
