| Miss Arkansas Rice Shares Heart Healthy Message During American Heart Month |
Miss Arkansas Rice Lydia Holmes is spreading the message about the heart health benefits of enriched white and whole-grain brown rice during American Heart Month.
In a special video message on arkansasricefarmers.org, Holmes touts the heart-healthy properties of rice -- including that it is cholesterol-, sodium-, and saturated fat-free, and is low in calories. In addition to the health properties of rice, the public service announcement also advertises the versatility and great taste of rice -- which was ranked No. 1 among the top 10 economizing food staples by Real Simple magazine last year. An audio message, distributed to Arkansas radio stations, carries a similar theme and is designed to encourage consumers to eat rice as part of a healthy diet.
"American Heart Month is a great time to spread the message about the advantages of a healthful food that is one of the state's top agricultural crops: rice," Holmes said. "It's important that we encourage everyone to maintain a healthy lifestyle not just during American Heart Month but all year long."
Lydia Holmes is the daughter of Byron and Brenda Holmes of Forrest City, AR.
