Successful marketing and promotion programs are vital to every segment of the food and beverage industries. Monday’s general session will focus on some outstanding examples.
Napa Valley – Then and Now
There’s a fascinating story behind the history and development of the Napa Valley region, which today is recognized worldwide for excellence in wine and culinary achievements. This well-earned recognition did not happen overnight. The Napa Valley story and rise to prominence will be highlighted in this session’s opening presentation.
USA Rice Retail Partner of the Year Award and Presentation
The USA Rice Federation’s Retail Partner of the Year award is presented to the organization that displays, merchandises and promotes U.S.-grown rice in creative and profitable ways during September National Rice Month. The 2007 winner is Alpha 1 Marketing of White Plains, NY, which develops merchandising and marketing programs for more than 230 C-Town, Bravo and AIM supermarkets in New York and New Jersey. Krasdale Foods, Alpha 1’s wholesaler and sister company, is also recognized for its support of National Rice Month as the product supplier to these stores. Rich DeSimone, Alpha 1’s vice president of sales and marketing, will be on hand to accept the award and present information on the successful promotion and its results.
Here’s to Beer!
Here’s another success story near and dear to the rice industry. Anheuser-Busch’s Here’s to Beer campaign focuses on elevating and enhancing the image of beer. In its third year, the 2008 focus continues to drive beer category growth, generate positive publicity for the industry, and encourage consumers to choose beer for more occasions. Jay Cunningham, senior manager, global industry development, Anheuser-Busch Inc., will make this presentation.
NEW MILLING PRODUCTS & TECHNOLOGY SEMINAR

Hear presentations on new products, technology and services for the rice milling industry at this annual seminar. Continental breakfast will be served. At the conclusion of the seminar, company representatives will be available at their exhibit booths to answer questions and provide additional information.

Featured Speaker: Daniel R. Walters
Dan Walters has been a journalist for more than 40 years, spending all but a few of those years working for California newspapers. At age 22, he was the nation’s youngest daily newspaper editor. Walters joined The Sacramento Union’s Capitol bureau in 1975 and later became the Union’s Capitol bureau chief. In 1981, he began writing the state’s only daily newspaper column devoted to California political, economic, and social events. In 1984, Mr. Walters and the column moved to The Sacramento Bee. His column now appears in more than 50 California newspapers, as well as some other states.
Walters has written about California and its politics for a number of other publications, including The Wall Street Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. He is the author of two books – The New California: Facing the 21st Century and The Third House: Lobbyists, Power and Money in Sacramento. He’s much in demand as a speaker, known for his hard-hitting and thoughtful commentary, with the inside story of politics and policies.

The annual reading of memorial resolutions will take place at Wednesday’s general session.
Presentation of the RMA Distinguished Service Award
The USA Rice Millers’ Association established the Distinguished Service Award to honor outstanding lifetime contributions to the U.S. rice milling industry. Please join us for the announcement and presentation of the highest honor bestowed by RMA.
