USA Rice was saddened to learn of the passing of Grover Connell on May 17 at the age of 100. Grover served as president of The Connell Company from 1950 until his death.
Originally operating as Connell Rice & Sugar Co., the company traded U.S.-grown rice and brokered domestic sugar and confectionary products, and by the 1970s was the largest non-governmental rice trader in the world, selling U.S. rice throughout Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Through Connell Rice & Sugar, Grover was a long-time associate member of the USA Rice Millers’ Association until the company ceased activity in the rice business in 2011. Today, The Connell Company is one of the largest diversified privately held corporations in the United States focused on equipment leasing and real estate development.
