ARLINGTON, VA – Today, USA Rice announced the keynote speaker for the 2019 Outlook Conference, award-winning Harvard-trained physician, researcher, and author Dr. Shimi Kang.

Kang, who is an expert on human motivation and neuroscience, studies, among other things, stress and the impact it has on our bodies and minds.  She believes stress and stress-related illnesses are a major public health crisis, and she jumped at the opportunity to participate in the Outlook Conference.

“There’s no question that stress levels are rising for all of us, and we know people working in agriculture have even higher levels, I think because there is so much uncertainty and things are changing so fast,” Kang said.  “I’m looking forward to speaking to the group at Outlook to talk about stress and neuroscience because I believe we can change the path we’re on and lead happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives as a result.”

Kang is committed to making mental health and wellness a priority, and through her entertaining talk she will change the way attendees think about and understand their own mental health.

“I think stress can be overlooked or written off sometimes as just something you need to deal with,” said Charley Mathews, Jr., a California rice farmer and chairman of USA Rice.  “But that is both untrue and unhelpful.  We need to eliminate the stigma around talking about mental health that may include asking for help.  I’m looking forward to hearing Dr. Kang who I think will help us all put things in perspective.”

The 2019 USA Rice Outlook Conference will take place in Little Rock, Arkansas, from December 8-10.
