SACRAMENTO, CA -- This year’s California Rice Commission (CRC) Annual Grower Meeting was carried out virtually late last week, as COVID-19 restrictions did not allow in person meetings.
Updates were provided on key subjects impacting the rice industry, from trade prospects and the water outlook to the fast-moving political landscape at the state and national levels.
“We really missed meeting in person,” said CRC Chair, Sean Doherty. “Fortunately, we had an excellent lineup of speakers. I thought Jim Wiesemeyer of Pro Farmer was a great addition, especially his update and analysis of the change happening in Washington, DC.”
In addition to Wiesemeyer, speakers included a federal update by Tyson Redpath of The Russell Group. Information on important state issues from Louie Brown of Kahn, Soares & Conway, a review of trade prospects and other important subjects by USA Rice President & CEO Betsy Ward, and a roundup of always important water topics from David Guy of the Northern California Water Association, a longtime partner with the CRC.
