USA Rice extends condolences to the family and friends of Beverly Whalen, a rice marketing specialist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS), who passed away March 27.

Beverly specialized in grain, rice, and pulse inspection procedures and was responsible for maintaining U.S. Grading Standards and Handbooks with regard to rice, beans, peas, and lentils.  She was a liaison between FGIS and other government agencies, rice and pulse producer groups, end users, merchandisers, handlers, and trade representatives.

“Beverly was very dedicated and passionate about the work she did for FGIS and the rice industry and was a good friend to many,” said Sandra Metheny, field office manager for the FGIS office in Stuttgart, Arkansas.

John Morgan, a vice president at Supreme Rice in Crowley, Louisiana, remembers Beverly as “a great advocate who had a unique perspective on rice given she worked for Riceland prior to FGIS.”

“Beverly was the long-term rice contact for all things FGIS in Kansas City,” said Morgan.  “Please keep her and her family in your prayers.”
