SINGAPORE – USA Rice is proud to be the Official Rice Partner of the World Gourmet Summit (WGS) 2021, for the third year running.  The WGS is regarded as Asia’s foremost gastronomic event for the food and beverage (F&B) industry bringing together the best culinary professionals from around the world.

Each year, the WGS bestows the World Gourmet Awards recognizing chefs and F&B professionals for their dedication, innovation, and excellence.  Since 2019, USA Rice has sponsored the Apprentice Chef of the Year and the Chef Mentor of the Year awards.  Sponsoring these coveted awards has put USA Rice in the forefront of the culinary and F&B scene in Singapore and the region.

“While COVID restrictions limited in-person WGS activities, the significance of participating in this premier event during a challenging period signals the USA Rice commitment to the F&B industry,” said Jim Guinn, USA Rice director of Asia promotion programs.  “The WGS is the only major gastronomic event supported by the Singapore government that was allowed to proceed due to its importance and adapted the event format to conform to current restrictions.”

The Apprentice Chef Award encourages students from culinary academies to explore their creativity using U.S. medium grain rice as a main ingredient, transforming this staple food into award winning dishes.  The winner was Joyce Tan Si Ying from the Singapore campus of the Culinary Institute of America.

The Chef Mentor of the Year award recognizes a senior chef who has made significant contributions over a minimum span of 10 years, and has led to the promotion and growth of excellence within the chef profession.  The winner of this award was Chef Benton Toh from The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore.

World Gourmet award winners were announced and presented virtually on Facebook Live last month.
