2007 National Rice Month Scholarship Winners

Washington, DC, November 21, 2007 — The 2007 National Rice Month Scholarship grand prize was awarded to Kathaleene Meacham of Brinkley, AR, the USA Rice Federation announced today. The award will be presented on December 3 at the USA Rice Outlook Conference in Orlando, FL.

To vie for a scholarship, eligible high school juniors and seniors in rice-growing states must conduct a promotion during September National Rice Month with U.S.-grown rice as the central theme. Meacham took top honors and earned a $3,500 scholarship for her promotion titled “Rice – It’s Family Friendly!” The campaign focused on four themes: the importance of rice to family mealtimes, family nutrition, family jobs and family farms.

Additional scholarship prizes were awarded as follows: Rachel Thompson, Cypress, TX, second place and $2,000; Katie Waldrip, Moro, AR; third place, $1,500; Emily Landry, Rayne, LA; fourth place, $1,000; Madeline Neely Winemiller, Newport, AR; fifth place, $750; Erica Roberg, Cabot, AR, sixth place, $500; and Nadia Jade Yancey, Stuttgart, AR, honorable mention, $250.
