ARLINGTON, VA -- USA Rice released a new nutrition and varietal toolkit for registered dieticians and consumers alike, to teach them about varieties of rice grown in the USA and the nutrients behind those varieties. This new resource joins USA Rice’s collection of other educational documents including the
Supermarket RD Toolkit and the
Consumer Nutrition Handouts, which are regularly requested by retail dieticians, consumers, parents, extension agents, educators, and others.
The six-page toolkit features an introduction to rice and an overview of the U.S. rice industry on the front. The center pages provide images and characteristics, including application, growing areas, nutrition, and a fun fact, of eleven U.S.-grown varieties. The toolkit closes with nutritional graphs that break down twenty-one nutrients for every variety included in the toolkit.
“Demand for this nutrition toolkit is overwhelming. It’s important for USA Rice to fill in the gaps left in the USDA nutrition database by conducting and owning this nutrition research,” said USA Rice Domestic Promotion Manager Cameron Jacobs. “And now that it is available to the public in a consumer-friendly format that includes industry information and a varietal breakdown, there’s no doubt this will become a top resource for consumers and health professionals alike.”
The varieties highlighted in the toolkit are short, medium, and long grain rice, parboiled, Arborio, jasmine, basmati, red rice, black rice, sweet rice, and wild rice.
The toolkit will make its big debut at the Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE) show this month which attracts more than 10,000 dieticians and health professionals.
