SINGAPORE – Last month, USA Rice, in conjunction with the World Gourmet Summit (WGS), participated in an initiative to support the frontline health care professionals here combating COVID-19.  Local rice importers donated more than 240 pounds of U.S. rice to restaurants that prepared gourmet box meals for delivery to Sengkang General Hospital staff as they cared for those affected by COVID-19.  The initiative ran for five days straight and catered more than 1,000 meals.

Most USA Rice promotional activities in Singapore have been suspended, postponed, or cancelled due to the nationwide coronavirus shutdown, however USA Rice continues to reach out to trade contacts via phone and videophone.

Even though Singapore was one of the first countries to contain the rapid spread of coronavirus, earlier this month Singapore’s Prime Minister announced a lockdown on non-essential activity through early May amid rising coronavirus cases.  Over the coming weeks, USA Rice is looking to develop a social media presence in this market as well as encourage U.S. rice sales via food delivery apps.
