Rice takes the long view at crop insurance convention

BONITA SPRINGS, FL -- The Annual Crop Insurance Convention hosted by the American Association of Crop Insurers and National Crop Insurance Services is ongoing here this week.
The schedule includes presentations from a host of policy makers, agriculture industry stakeholders, and others, including Members of Congress, staff from the House and Senate Agriculture Committees, and commodity group representatives.
This morning, convention attendees heard from a panel of representatives from organizations including rice, corn, cotton, fresh produce, soybeans, and sugar as they each discussed their specific sector’s Farm Bill and other policy priorities for 2023. Jamison Cruce, USA Rice senior director of government affairs, represented the U.S. rice industry.
“Rice farmers need an on-time Farm Bill that includes much-needed improvements to the Price Loss Coverage program, particularly an increase to the reference price,” said Cruce. “We’re optimistic given the commitment of the leaders of the agriculture committees, and the general support in Congress right now to get a Farm Bill across the finish line this year.”
