MEXICO CITY, MEXICO — USA Rice made a big impact at Expo Gastronómica 2024, one of the largest trade shows in Mexico targeting Hotel, Restaurant, and Industry (HRI) professionals held here last month. The three-day event, attended daily by nearly 10,000 culinary professionals, food enthusiasts, and industry stakeholders, served as a vibrant platform for showcasing the versatility and quality of U.S.-grown rice in the international market.
USA Rice Chef Ambassador Chef Aquiles Chavez, a culinary luminary, gave live cooking demonstrations on the main stage, drawing a crowd of more than 1,000 onlookers. His engaging presentations featured a variety of U.S. rice dishes, highlighting the grain's adaptability across different cuisines. Chef Luis Chui, another USA Rice ambassador, captivated audiences with his Asian-fusion style cooking, demonstrating how U.S. rice seamlessly blends into his Chinese culinary traditions.
In a unique twist, mixologist Richard Sandoval served refreshing beverages featuring U.S. rice, including innovative takes on traditional drinks. One standout creation was his modern reinterpretation of horchata that included saké as an optional ingredient – this was not your grandmother’s recipe!
The USA Rice booth was a hub of activity, showcasing eight brands that source U.S.-origin rice. Visitors engaged with the USA Rice team, learning about where to source U.S.-origin rice and the characteristics that set this grain apart from other imported options.
"Expo Gastronómica provided an excellent platform to connect with our international partners and demonstrate the culinary potential of U.S. rice," said Asiha Grigsby, USA Rice senior director of promotion in the Western Hemisphere. "The positive feedback we received from chefs and industry professionals underscores the importance of continuing our engagement with international markets and promoting the many benefits of U.S.-grown rice.”
