ARLINGTON, VA – There was a flurry of activity on Capitol Hill late in December as the Congressional and secular calendars wound down.  There was a government shutdown to avoid or not, a Farm Bill to pass or extend or send everyone off the dairy cliff, a debt ceiling to bump our heads into or raise, emergency assistance to pass or not, and more.

USA Rice staff and members were working with Congressional staff and allies in Congress right up to the last seconds to ensure the interests of the rice industry didn’t suffer and that as few cans as possible were kicked down the road.

Quarterbacking for USA Rice was Vice President of Government Affairs Jamison Cruce who joined co-host Michael Klein on Episode 105 of The Rice Stuff podcast to explain everything that happened and what it means for the rice industry in 2025.

Spoiler alert, emergency assistance is coming…at some point, and the dairy cliff has been averted.  For now.  All that, plus yoga, walking across England, and more.

New episodes of The Rice Stuff are published on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month and can be found on your favorite podcast services or www.TheRiceStuffPodcast.com.
