ARLINGTON, VA – USA Rice has developed a new educational K-12 coloring activity designed to help elementary school students learn more about U.S.-grown rice.  The two-sided coloring sheet illustrates the farm-to-table journey of rice and the role it plays in healthy diets.

The resource uses interactive classroom-friendly illustrations to guide students through the lifecycle of U.S.-grown rice from the planting season in spring, summer growth, fall harvest, and eventually the milling process.  Students are introduced to the diversity of domestic rice options available including brown, white, jasmine, Calrose, and wild rice.  There are sections highlighting the nutritional benefits that rice provides as part of a balanced meal in student-appropriate language, word games, and a state mapping exercise to illustrate where rice is grown across the United States.

The coloring sheet also highlights the sustainability practices on U.S. rice farms, especially the important role rice fields play in supporting biodiversity for countless wildlife species like frogs, fish, and ducks.

“These interactive sheets are a fun and approachable way for students to understand and develop an appreciation for the U.S.-grown difference,” said Cameron Jacobs, USA Rice vice president of domestic promotion.  “USA Rice’s suite of K-12 resources help foster a connection to agriculture for students of all ages and raise awareness of U.S.-grown rice for students, teachers, and their families.”
