Rice Industry Meetings Scheduled Next Week for Louisiana and Arkansas

JENNINGS, LA -- Rice industry stakeholders will receive the latest information on opportunities and challenges in major markets at several meetings scheduled next week throughout Louisiana and Arkansas.

The annual joint membership meeting of the Louisiana Rice Council and the Louisiana Rice Growers Association will be held Tuesday, February 2, at the Grand Marais Center, 919 North Lake Arthur Avenue, Jennings, LA 70546.  A trade show and reception will begin at 4 p.m. and program presentations begin at 5:45 p.m.  Dinner will be served.

In addition to reports on major Louisiana rice export markets, USA Rice staff will highlight activities in the international and domestic markets, and government affairs issues impacting the industry.  

Concurrently on Tuesday morning, the Northeast Louisiana Rice Growers Association will hold their annual rice forum at 9:00 a.m. at the Rayville Civic Center, Rayville, LA.  Peter Bachmann, USA Rice manager of government affairs, will provide a legislative and USDA update.

On Wednesday, February 3, the Central Louisiana Rice Growers Association will hold their annual membership meeting at 11 a.m. at the Rapides Parish Extension Office Conference Center on the Dean Lee Experiment Station, 8105 Tom Bowman Road, Alexandria, LA.  USA Rice staff will repeat their reports and lunch will be served.  For more information contact Phillip Lamartiniere, (318) 201-1132, or Randy Jemison, (337) 515-7250.

On Thursday, February 4, USA Rice staff will give presentations at a meeting for the Northeast Louisiana/Southeast Arkansas area at 10 a.m. at the Delta Men’s Club, 1127 Highway 65 South, Eudora, AR 71640.  William Cole, Jr. also will be on-hand to talk about crop insurance options for rice farmers.  Lunch will be served.  For more information contact Ron Miller, (870) 473-2281, or Randy Jemison.

And finally, on Friday, February 5, the Arkansas Rice Council and Arkansas Rice Farmers will hold their annual meeting and trade show at the ASU Convocation Center in Jonesboro, AR, beginning at 9:00 a.m.  U.S. Congressman Rick Crawford, Arkansas Agriculture Secretary Wes Ward, and USA Rice President & CEO Betsy Ward headline the program, which will focus on research developments and policies affecting the rice industry.  For more information contact Lauren Waldrip, (870) 295-8454.
