USA Rice Conducts Promotions in Superstores throughout Turkey

ISTANBUL, TURKEY -- Following last year's successful promotions here, USA Rice again teamed up with CarrefourSA, a major hypermarket chain with more than 756 stores throughout the country, to organize events to promote U.S. rice brands and increase sales of U.S. rice.

CarrefourSA conducted in-store promotions at two of their busiest stores last month reaching more than 25,000 Turkish consumers with strong messages emphasizing U.S. rice as versatile, healthy, and nutritious.  Booths were set up in the stores where shoppers could taste test dishes made with U.S. rice and pick up brochures and point-of sale materials, including consumer bags and leaflets featuring healthy images and happy families with U.S. rice.

“We strongly support and believe in the effectiveness of U.S. rice in-store promotions at our stores," said CarrefourSA Armonipark store manager Mr. Zafer Işin.  “Our U.S. sales increased by a phenomenal 1,000 percent during in-store promotions!  Plus it helps educate our consumers about U.S. rice health benefits.  We look forward to conducting these promotions in the future.”

At the same time, an extensive social media and public relations campaign was launched in major blogs, lifestyle and youth publications, and using the USA Rice Turkish Facebook site and Instagram to post U.S. rice recipes and cooking tips.  Total fan and engagement rate reached a new record in March with 13,000 fans on Facebook and 523 followers on Instagram.

"While these promotion events are successful and popular, there are, at present, some trade hurdles in Turkey for U.S. rice, and USA Rice representatives are meeting in Ankara next month to continue working toward resolving them,” said Jim Guinn, USA Rice vice president of international promotion.
