  • USA Rice Celebrates Thousands Serving Billions of School Lunches

    More than five billion lunches are served each year in U.S. schools and nearly 6,000 of the men and women responsible for those nutritious meals gathered here this week for the School Nutrition Association’s (SNA) Annual National Conference.   • Costa Rica Gets a Taste of Cajun Cooking

    Late last month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture hosted a cooking event with the U.S. Ambassador to Costa Rica Stafford Haney. USA Rice was one of the groups that supported this culinary diplomacy event, which shared Cajun cooking with Costa Rican chefs and consumers. Chef Ryan Hughes and Ambassador Haney cooked a Cajun chicken étoufée, utilizing U.S. rice.

  • WASDE Report Released

    U.S. 2017/18 all rice supplies are lowered 9.5 million cwt to 261.6 million on a production decrease, which is partially offset by slightly higher imports. Long grain production is lowered 5.6 million cwt and combined medium/short grain production is lowered 4.1 million cwt. The production decrease stems from a 123,000 acre reduction in harvested area, reflecting the floods that occurred in Northeast Arkansas and the bootheel of Missouri as well as excessive moisture in California at planting time.
