    While traveling through Texas and Louisiana, we covered the entire spectrum of the rice industry from breeding seed to loading ships with rice for export. We learned a great deal about the journey of southern grown rice. We followed rice through the entire production process and shook the hands of scientists, farmers, millers, and marketers - the very hands that carry the grain along the journey.

  • In Louisiana with the Rice Leadership Class, Session One

    The Rice Leadership Development Program toured the LSU AgCenter H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station and visited a crawfish farming operation on March 22. The group was treated to crawfish at the farm of Christian and Julie Richard the previous night. At the station, the group learned about the ongoing research activities conducted there. One of the presentations was made by a member of the leadership class, Adam Famoso, a rice breeder at the station. The group toured the Crowley plant of JohnPac, which makes woven bags for rice and other products worldwide, and rode on a crawfish boat at the Zaunbrecher Brothers Farm near Rayne.

  • 2018/20 Leadership Development Program Class Announced

    Members of the 2018/20 Rice Leadership Development Program class were announced Monday during the annual Rice Awards Luncheon at the 2017 USA Rice Outlook Conference. The class is comprised of five rice producers and two industry-related professionals selected by a committee of agribusiness leaders.

  • Leadership Class Heads West to California Rice Country

    Late last month, the 2016/18 Rice Leadership Development Class completed Session Three of the program, a comprehensive tour of California's Central Valley rice country, including an overview of rice marketing and production practices, crop diversity, conservation and environmental issues, as well as a close look at rice harvest.

  • Apply Now for Rice Leadership Program

    Rice producers and other industry-related professionals who are interested and meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to complete the application process for the 2018 Rice Leadership Development program by October 7. The next class will be announced in December at the USA Rice Outlook Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
