  • Update: U.S./China Phytosanitary Agreement

    The phytosanitary protocol that promises to pave the way for export trade with China appears to be tracking toward a successful resolution, maybe as soon as next week when China’s President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit the United States. However, USDA’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) said this afternoon they are awaiting agreement on the language of the protocol from AQSIQ, their counterpart in China, before the deal can be finalized.

  • Rice Industry's Food Bank Donation Honors Hunger Action Month

    Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain, rice industry leaders, and representatives of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank (GBRFB) gathered at the Capitol Park Museum in view of the state capitol yesterday to proclaim September as Louisiana Rice Month and Louisiana Hunger Action Month and to make the annual rice donation to the GBRFB.

  • USA Rice Briefs House Agriculture Committee Staff

    USA Rice COO Bob Cummings joined representatives from the dairy and sugar industries on Tuesday for a briefing on the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) at the House Agriculture committee. The briefing, for the agriculture staff of individual Committee Members, was in preparation for a meeting between the Committee and U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman the following day which was held in executive session.

  • Honduras Confirms Additional Quota of 25,000 MT of U.S. Rice

    The Honduran Ministry of Agriculture (SAG) confirmed that an additional 25,000 MT of U.S. paddy rice will be imported duty free this calendar year, above the already fulfilled 2015 CAFTA-DR Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) amount of 108,000 MT for paddy rice.
