• USA Rice Lets the Trade do the Talking in the UK

    USA Rice has launched a print media campaign here using the UK trade itself to endorse the virtues of U.S.-grown rice in the UK. The campaign features four branded and five generic spokespeople and covers all areas of the UK trade from wholesalers, importers, and millers, as well as key members of the restaurant trade to communicate the qualities of U.S. rice and build around the critical message of consistency.

  • Overseas Promotion Funding Announced for 2017

    On Wednesday, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) is awarding USA Rice nearly $2.5 million in MAP funds and over $1.6 in FMD funds.

  • FAS Predicts Continued Drop in Per Capita Consumption of Table Rice; Stagnant Use in Animal Feed

    In its latest report, the Foreign Agricultural Service post in Tokyo reports that with continued decline in Japanese table rice consumption, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) began subsidizing farmers to shift production from table rice to other crops. For those farmers who have not reduced rice production, MAFF has had some success in encouraging increased production of rice for animal feed and use of paddy rice as silage.

  • New Wholesale and Retail Partners in Japan Commit to Sales of U.S. Rice

    Mitsuwa Corporation, a wholesaler located in the mega-populous Kanto region of Japan (greater Tokyo/Yokohama), will soon begin marketing U.S. Calrose rice at retail outlets. The retail bags feature the U.S. Rice logo used in Japan to promote Calrose rice.

    This week, USA Rice exhibited at the 34th annual Havana International Fair (FIHAV). The USA Rice delegation was led by Ernesto Baron and Ana Vettorazzi, USA Rice representatives for the region, and Dr. Michael (MO) Way from Texas A&M. In addition to meeting with several hundred attendees, USA Rice also held meetings with delegates from ALIMPORT (the Cuban Import Company), the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, and from Grupo Empresarial Agricola-GAD (Agriculture Enterprise Group).

  • Mexico’s 2016 Rice Chef of the Year Moves Rice to the Center of the Plate

    Last month, USA Rice hosted the 16th annual “Rice Chef of the Year” cooking competition held at the Escuela Superior de Turismo of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (Superior School of Tourism of the Polytechnic Institution; E.S.T.). Twenty professional chefs representing restaurants across Mexico City and instructors from various culinary institutions cooked diverse and delicious rice dishes.
