ARLINGTON, VA -- USA Rice is showcasing a collaboration with Valley Fig Growers, a California grower-owned cooperative whose brands include Orchard Choice and Sun-Maid, and promoting a new recipe that highlights the combination of rice and figs.

The new recipe, California Dried Fig and Prosciutto Arancini, is the center of a social media campaign by both USA Rice and Valley Fig Growers to share industry and product talking points across each other’s networks and audiences.  The campaign includes a giveaway launched last Monday on Facebook with an ask for would-be prize winners to “follow” both organizations.  The contest runs through the end of the month.  Winners will receive a prize pack that includes a sampling of figs from Valley Fig Growers, two pounds of U.S.-grown short grain rice, and a 3-cup mini rice cooker.

“It was great to work with another U.S.-grown commodity organization and we thank the Valley Fig Growers for their expertise and efforts,” said Cameron Jacobs, USA Rice director of domestic promotion.  “This promotional collaboration was a great way for USA Rice to highlight the versatility and flavor range of U.S.-grown rice through an intriguing ingredient combination of rice and California dried figs while engaging and distributing U.S.-grown messaging to a new audience.”

USA Rice Chef and James Beard Award Nominee Hari Cameron created the arancini appetizer using California-grown short grain rice to demonstrate the rich and flavorful pairing of U.S.-grown rice and California dried figs.  Ingredient amounts have been calculated for both foodservice (ten servings) and consumer (five servings) audiences.

"Working together with USA Rice, Valley Fig Growers Orchard Choice, and Sun-Maid California Dried Figs gave us a chance to promote our products across customer audiences of passionate cooks, interested in knowing where their ingredients come from,” said Annelies Zijderveld, Valley Fig Growers media and marketing liaison.  “The all-California collaboration comes together in the Fig and Prosciutto Stuffed Arancini, created by Chef Hari Cameron that beautifully highlights California-grown short-grain rice and both California golden dried figs and California mission dried figs."
