WASHINGTON, DC -- The CEO Ag Council hosted a meeting last Friday with leaders from President-Elect Biden’s transition team covering the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). USA Rice President & CEO Betsy Ward is a member of the group, comprised of 21 CEOs of major farm, commodity, and agribusiness organizations, that meets regularly and maintains a continuing dialogue with White House and Administration officials around the needs of farmers and rural communities.
Over the summer, the council compiled a report for both the Trump and Biden campaigns on current, critical issues for agriculture including the need to strengthen agricultural market demand, increase engagement with the agricultural community in developing climate solutions, and address rural challenges related to the pandemic.
“The CEO Ag Council is diligent about keeping ag issues front and center, no matter who occupies the White House,” said Ward. “We appreciate the transition team’s interest in hearing from farm and agricultural organizations as they work to build a foundation to support agriculture within the Biden Administration.”
USA Rice remains in close communication with political appointees and career staff at USDA to ensure rice industry priorities and issues are understood and accounted for during the transition period.
