WASHINGTON, DC – This week, USA Rice staff attended a meeting of the “Grain Chain,” an industry coalition, to discuss development of the 2020 U.S. Dietary Guidelines, the Grain Chain’s drafted comments for submission to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and ongoing industry activities to promote grain foods to consumers and influencers.
The current phase of the 2020 U.S. Dietary Guidelines development process calls for public comments on the selections of topics and questions for the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) by March 30. USA Rice will submit written comments to the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee through the Food and Beverage Issue Alliance and grain industry coalition.
“These meetings keep the U.S. rice industry front and center during the 2020 DGA development process,” said Cameron Jacobs, USA Rice domestic promotion manager. “As a member of the Grain Chain, USA Rice participates in discussions on critical issues facing the grain industry as a whole, and collaborates with other grain partners to create a strong, unified response during the 2020 DGA development process.”
The “Grain Chain” represents producers, millers, bakers, and manufacturers, and includes the American Bakers Association, Grain Foods Foundation, National Association of Wheat Growers, National Pasta Association, North American Millers’ Association, U.S. Wheat Associates, USA Rice Federation, and Wheat Foods Council.
USA Rice will continue to update readers on the 2020 Dietary Guidelines development process and how it pertains to U.S.-grown rice.
