SINGAPORE – “4-hands” dinners are especially popular on Singapore’s restaurant scene, and involve a collaboration between two chefs who team up to share ingredients and cooking techniques to create new dishes.
U.S.-grown rice played a role in a recent 4-hands event featuring Chef Petrina Loh and Chef Audra Morrice. The two met on the set of MasterChef Singapore and decided to prepare and present a special menu based on what they loved to eat as kids.
“As Audra and I talked about our childhood favorite ingredients, sauces, dishes, this menu was born from those fond memories,” said Chef Petrina, who hosted the event at Morsels, the restaurant she owns in the Dempsey Hill neighborhood of Singapore.
The special menu included one main dish, Lo Mai Gai (sticky rice chicken). Chef Petrina reached out and asked whether USA Rice would provide the rice for this collaboration.
“We gladly delivered U.S.-grown medium grain to her kitchen along with informational brochures to help educate consumers who participated in the 4-hands event,” said Jim Guinn, USA Rice director of Asia promotion programs. “The collaboration between these two famous chefs was a great success and USA Rice was proud to play a part in their culinary walk down memory lane.”
Chef Audra began her culinary career as a finalist in MasterChef Australia 2012 and became a judge on MasterChef Asia and MasterChef Singapore. Chef Petrina was awarded the honor of Chef of the Year (female) at the World Gourmet Summit held in Singapore earlier this year.
