INDIAN WELLS, CA – The 2023 USA Rice Outlook Conference, the largest rice conference in the United States, kicked off last night with a grand opening reception welcoming colleagues to talk shop, get some work done, and have some well-earned fun.

“Today and tomorrow are jam-packed with presentations, break-out sessions, state reports, the Annual Awards Luncheon, and lots of meeting and greeting in between,” said USA Rice President & CEO Peter Bachmann.  “Expect exciting speakers and more than nine hours of outstanding educational sessions to make your time spent in Indian Wells truly impactful to you, to your bottom line, and to your business.”

If you’re here in person, you’ll also receive the latest issue of the USA Rice Whole Grain in your Outlook registration packet.  The hefty year-end issue has taken on a sleeker look and includes ads for the many sponsors who generously support the conference – a gentle reminder to stop by their booths in the Exhibit Hall to check out all they have to offer.

The theme of the winter issue is “what’s new” – from the debut of the downloadable USA Rice K-12 foodservice cookbook, Florida joining the USA Rice Farmers, changes in leadership on several rice boards, and the announcement that Peter Bachmann is taking the reins at USA Rice from Betsy Ward who retires at the end of the year.

You’ll also read about the many times USA Rice members either traveled to Washington, DC, or hosted legislators at operations in their home states to advocate for rice industry issues.  The issue also includes reports on international markets in Ecuador, Haiti, and the UK, as well as updates on Cuba and India, and the many challenges those two countries pose when it comes to trade with the U.S.

If you’d like additional copies to distribute to friends, neighbors, and colleagues, or if you would like to advertise in future issues, contact Deborah Willenborg.  And as always, digital versions of all Whole Grain issues are available on the USA Rice website.
