ARLINGTON, VA – Supreme Rice recently became a sponsor of the Rice Leadership Development Program, joining the three current, long-term sponsors, American Commodity Company, John Deere, and RiceTec.  Supreme is Louisiana’s largest rice milling operation with mills in Crowley and Mermentau, Louisiana, and Crawfordsville, Arkansas.

“We at Supreme strongly believe in this outstanding program and are honored to support the effort to foster a deep reservoir of leaders to ensure the U.S. rice industry remains viable and relevant,” said Supreme Rice CEO Bobby Hanks.

The Rice Leadership Development Program has been in existence since 1989 and gives future leaders in the U.S. rice industry a comprehensive understanding of the industry.  The class attends four one-week sessions over a two-year period that encompasses studies of all aspects of the rice industry through firsthand observations.  They also attend seminars and workshops designed to strengthen leadership skills.

Each year seven individuals, all between 25 and 45 years of age, are selected to participate in the program that to date has more than 220 alumni.  The highly competitive selection process is open to individuals who derive their primary livelihood as rice producers or from a rice industry-related profession or firm, including rice mills, rice product marketers, sales officials, dryers, extension services, research facilities, etc.  Participants from the industry-related category must serve the rice industry in their primary job responsibility.
