USA Rice extends condolences to the family and friends of Caroline Evelyn Janik Ottis, who passed away peacefully at home on November 9, at the age of 78.
A graduate of Wharton High School, Caroline attended the University of Texas where she met the love of her life, Dick Ottis. They married in July 1968, and she supported him throughout his career in the rice industry.
“Caroline was such a loving, fun addition to all of our rice meetings and Outlook Conferences,” said Texas rice farmer Linda Raun. “One of my favorite memories is of Dick singing “Sweet Caroline” to her at Eddie V’s Restaurant at an Outlook Conference in Austin. We will miss her beautiful smile that always lit up the room.”
Known for her kind, compassionate heart and welcoming personality, Caroline will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, loyal friend, and deeply faith-filled woman. She was a member of St Andrew’s and St. Phillip’s Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir. She also enjoyed bowling and playing golf, but her most precious memories were the times spent with her grandchildren and extended family.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, November 14, followed by a Rosary at 6 p.m. at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, November 15, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Hillje, Texas.
Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Houston, St. Andrew’s Church, St. Phillips Catholic School, The 100 Club of Wharton County, or a charity of your choice.
