WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has opened enrollment for the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) and Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) programs for crop year 2025.  Farmers have the option to annually select which program to enroll in on a crop-by-crop basis for PLC or ARC-County.  Selecting ARC-Individual requires the whole farm be enrolled in that program.

According to USDA, if an election is not submitted by the deadline of April 15, 2025, the election defaults to the election for crops on the farm from 2024.

“USA Rice continues urging Congress to pass a new Farm Bill with a meaningful PLC reference price that is effective for the 2025 crop year.  This is imperative for rice farmers to have a safety net,” said LG Raun, a Texas rice farmer and USA Rice Farmers chair.  “While we recognize the farm safety programs are well out of date, we strongly encourage rice farmers to evaluate their options this crop year.”

Both PLC and ARC were included in the 2018 Farm Bill extension as a part of the American Relief Act of 2025.  Go here for USDA program information and data.
