USA Rice extends condolences to the family and friends of Patricia Lynn Woods, who passed away on February 15, at the age of 83.

Patty was born in Baird, Texas, and graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1959 before attending Southwestern University, where she met the love of her life, J.D. "Des" Woods. They were married in 1960 and created a beautiful family together, one that she cherished deeply.

For Pam West, CEO of Brookshire Drying Company, who had the honor of knowing Mrs. Woods for 31 years, “Ms. Patty’s top priority was being a devoted wife and mother to four beautifully successful children.  Her generous nature showed her love for everyone around her.  God blessed Ms. Patty with a lot of grit and determination, and I always admired that about her.”

Beyond her devotion to family, Patricia was a force of nature – strong, tenacious, and courageous, often described as a spitfire with a delightful sense of humor.  Her passions were many, and she found joy in horseback riding, hunting with Des, cooking exquisite meals, and time spent with her mother in the Garden Club, where they nurtured both plants and their bond.

“Des’ passion for rice farming could have only been surpassed by his desire to be outdoors with Patty,” said Terry Hlavinka, president of Hlavinka Equipment Company who is a family friend and neighbor sharing canals and roads and even fields at times.  “He always beams when speaking about Patty’s hunting and shooting skills which seemed to have always resulted in a successful hunt.  The couple was blessed with many great harvests of fields of rice and game.”

Visitation is February 21, from 6:00- 8:00 p.m., at Schmidt Funeral Home, 1508 East Avenue, Katy, Texas.  A funeral service will be held February 22, at 1:30 p.m., at Katy First United Methodist Church, 5601 5th Street, Katy.  Interment will follow in Katy Magnolia Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Patricia’s memory to the American Foundation for AIDS Research, the Houston Humane Society, or Shriner's Hospital for Children.  These charitable organizations reflect her compassion and desire to help those in need.
