WASHINGTON, DC – The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) recently re-launched its Agricultural Advisory Committee (AAC) and Jason Wheeler was reappointed to represent USA Rice.  A grain merchandising specialist at White Commercial, Wheeler was first appointed to the AAC in the fall of 2022 and previously served as chair of the USA Rice Futures Contract Working Group (see USA Rice Daily, November 3, 2022)

“I’m proud to re-launch the CFTC’s Agricultural Advisory Committee to ensure that our agricultural growers and producers have a seat at the table and have their voices heard,” Chairman Michael S. Selig said.  “The AAC’s work will help ensure the CFTC’s decisions are informed by the perspectives of the agricultural industry.”

Created in 1985, the AAC advises the Commission on issues related to the trading of agricultural commodity futures and options and facilitates communication between the CFTC, the agricultural community, and agriculture-related organizations.  Having a direct line of communication with market participants across all aspects of the agricultural sector is essential to ensure the agency’s regulations adapt to market and consumer needs.

“I want to thank Chairman Selig for moving swiftly to sponsor the CFTC’s Agricultural Advisory Committee and his commitment to working with the agricultural community,” said Wheeler. “I look forward to continuing to serve and be an advocate for rice as the AAC begins its work in 2026.”

Chairman Selig was nominated by President Trump in October 2025 and confirmed by the United States Senate on December 18.  He was sworn in several days later.  On January 23, he sponsored the AAC and sought nominations to fill existing vacancies.
