WASHINGTON, DC -- Last week, Congresswoman Julia Letlow (R-LA) was appointed to serve on the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations that has oversight over almost all federal expenditures and determines all discretionary spending.
Letlow will serve on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, and the Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs, two key subcommittees of great importance to the U.S. rice industry.
“Serving on the Appropriations Committee is an incredible honor, and I’m very appreciative of the trust that our Republican leadership and the Steering Committee have placed in me,” Letlow said. “Holding this seat is an opportunity to ensure that our region and state can receive the resources that are desperately needed for our critical priorities.”
Pursuant to House rules, Letlow will no longer be able to serve on the House Committees on Agriculture and Education and Labor as she assumes her new role on the Appropriations Committee.
“We are excited to have a Louisiana Member of Congress who represents a rice-producing district on the House Appropriations Committee,” said Louisiana rice miller and USA Rice Chair Bobby Hanks. “Congresswoman Letlow is a huge advocate for the U.S. rice industry and agriculture as a whole, and is uniquely positioned to support the industry in her new role. We look forward to continuing to work with her and her staff on issues that are important to our industry, including providing producer assistance to offset input costs and stagnant prices.”
