LONDON, UK – National Rice Week has been celebrated here with events promoting all types of rice and the many delicious dishes that can be cooked with them.  At one promotion, USA Rice partnered with Wanis for their annual Trade Week, an event which attracts thousands of customers who take advantage of the many deals and offers available at the Wanis warehouse throughout the week.

Wanis is a top wholesaler of quality world foods that serves trade customers and distributes products nationally across the UK to supermarkets, wholesalers, independent retailers, online stores, restaurants, takeaways, and caterers of all sizes.

As part of the celebration, guests were invited to taste various dishes made with Tropical Sun USA easy cook rice, the Wanis U.S. rice brand and one of their bestselling products.  Chefs from two local restaurants, Jay’s Kitchen and Waakye Joint, created a panorama of delicious, colorful dishes showing the diversity of cuisines that can be developed using Tropical Sun USA easy cook rice, including a fresh take on Biryani from India, Pilau Rice from South Asia, Jollof Rice from Nigeria, and Rice & Peas from Jamaica.

“Making our traditional signature dish, waakye, that comes from Ghana and is also known as Rice & Beans, with USA easy cook rice is a breeze – really good to work with and having great quality and taste,” said Chef Linda with Waakye Joint restaurants, established more than 30 years ago and serving up to 1,000 customers a week in each of their three branches.

The Trade Week was attended by many esteemed guests from the embassies of several African and Afro-Caribbean countries, as well as representatives of large corporations and media including Ann Mitchell, a British television and stage actress, recently known for her role in the long-running UK soap opera, “Eastenders.”

“The Wanis Trade Week is an excellent way to encourage people to experiment with USA easy cook rice in a range of dishes, both those traditionally made using our rice, like waakye, but also dishes that normally would use other rice varieties like biryani, which helps drive additional sales to new customers,” said Eszter Somogyi, USA Rice director for Europe, Middle East, and Africa.  “We appreciate partnering up with Wanis for this occasion and look forward to continuing promotions to expand U.S. rice sales in different market segments in the UK.”
