USA Rice extends condolences to the family and friends of Hugh Arant, who passed away in Ruleville, Mississippi, last month.
Born in Greenwood, Mississippi, Hugh's life was marked by deep connections to his community, church, family, and farming, which played a central role throughout his journey starting with his graduation from Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics.
Hugh was awarded the Leflore County Young Farmer of the Year award in 1984 and the Sunbelt Ag Farmer of the Year in 2002. He also served on the boards of various organizations including Farmer's Grain, Leflore County Farm Bureau, and Delta Council.
“Hugh was a great friend to have and a great friend to agriculture,” said USA Rice member Travis Satterfield of Benoit, Mississippi. “His involvement in many leadership positions was a guiding light in the positive development of rice acres in Mississippi and he worked tirelessly for the agricultural community. His presence will be greatly missed.”
Hugh's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to his community. He will be remembered not just for his work on the farm but as a man who loved deeply and gave selflessly.
