USA Rice extends condolences to the family and friends of Larry Lawson, who passed away last Friday, September 20, one day before his 80th birthday.
A native of Crowley, Louisiana, Larry dedicated his life to farming rice, soybeans, and crawfish. He graduated from Crowley High School in 1962 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness from the University of Southwest Louisiana. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was assigned to a duty station in Scotland, where he specialized in naval intelligence. It was there that he met Marilyn Rodgers, who became his wife of 55 years and mother of their three children Alan, Christine, and Elizabeth.
Dr. Steve Linscombe, director of The Rice Foundation, gave Larry credit for being “a hardworking, diligent, and progressive rice farmer. He was always ahead of the curve when it came to incorporating new varieties and technology into his operation.”
Bobby Hanks, CEO of Supreme Rice in Crowley, agrees with the assessment of Larry as a pioneer and cutting-edge farmer. Hanks added, “However, I believe Larry will be remembered more so for being the kind, humble, and loving man that he was.”
Visitation will be held today, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, 301 North Avenue F, Crowley, LA 70526.
