BAGHDAD, IRAQ – Another sale of 44,000 metric tons (MT) of U.S. long grain milled rice to Iraq was just confirmed, bringing the tonnage to 132,000 MT in the first five months of the 2024-2025 Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) year. Given the unusually low milling yields over the last two years, this amounts to more than 264,000 tons of paddy rice being utilized for Iraq alone.
“We know there are challenges with security and financial restrictions in Iraq and we are grateful for all of the hard work from the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Agriculture in finding workable solutions,” said Keith Glover, chair of USA Rice.
Iraq is a top market for U.S. rice, thanks in large part to the 200,000 MT MOU between Al Awees and USA Rice.
