TAIPEI, TAIWAN – Earlier this month, USA Rice organized a seminar here designed to promote the use of U.S. rice in Taiwan’s food processing and foodservice sectors.

“The seminar was attended by 40 food manufacturers, product developers, R&D personnel, and foodservice professionals, and showcased four U.S. rice varieties – Calrose, Southern medium grain, long grain, and short grain glutinous rice,” said USA Rice COO Sarah Moran.  “The goal was to highlight the quality, consistency, and versatility of U.S. rice in a range of value-added food products through applications in savory foods, desserts, and fermented beverages.”

Participants showed strong interest in the featured products and actively engaged in discussions on product formulation, processing methods, and market opportunities.  The rice-based applications generated particular attention, with attendees exploring how the products and concepts could be adapted for their own businesses.

Following the seminar, more than 10 food processing companies expressed interest in sourcing U.S. rice and evaluating its use in future product development projects.

“The strong participation and positive industry response demonstrated growing interest in U.S. rice beyond traditional table rice consumption,” said Moran.  “The seminar successfully increased awareness of the diverse applications of U.S. rice and identified new opportunities for its use in Taiwan’s food processing and foodservice industries.”
