WASHINGTON, DC – Earlier today, President Biden signed into law the terms of the agreement for rail workers that prevents a nationwide rail shutdown that could have occurred as soon as December 9.

Four of the 12 rail unions voted this fall to reject the National Tentative Agreement reached in September, taking into account recommendations from the Presidential Emergency Board.  The House voted on Wednesday and the Senate voted on Thursday to codify the agreement which sent the measure to the President’s desk.

USA Rice applauds the Administration and Congress for acting quickly to avert a shutdown and ensure continued service by the rail industry, critical for the rice and broader agricultural supply chains.

USA Rice's focus now returns to securing improved service for those within the rice industry that rely on rail shipments.
