USA Rice extends condolences to the friends and family of Patrick Lloyd Hartwell, “Pat,” who was 65 when he passed away at home yesterday.  He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pam, and their two daughters and their families.

Pat dedicated many years of service as a rice buyer for Farmers Rice Milling Company, based in Lake Charles, Louisiana, before retiring this past year.

Philip Bertrand, who worked with Pat throughout his career, remembers him as “That Guy.  Pat was someone who was always professional and respectful, great to be around, a pleasure to travel with, and someone you could always count on when the rubber met the road.”

Pat’s commitment to the rice industry and the farmers of the region was evident in all that he did.

“He was a proud member of USA Rice and a steadfast contributor to the organization in whatever capacity was asked of him whether it was attending committee meetings, rounding out a foursome in the annual USA Rice Millers’ Association golf tournament, or helping serve up homegrown gumbo from the USA Rice booth at festivals and trade shows,” said USA Rice President & CEO Peter Bachmann.

Pat found joy in spending time outdoors, whether it was crawfishing, playing golf, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature.  He cherished the moments spent with his family and friends.

USA Rice’s Dr. Steve Linscombe knew Pat his whole life.  “Pat was from my hometown of Gueydan and I watched him grow up.  He was an outstanding individual who served a major role in the southwest Louisiana milling industry.  He was greatly respected by everyone who knew him.”

A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Pat’s life.
