WASHINGTON, DC – This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act (H.R. 7567), which reauthorizes the remaining farm bill provisions that were not included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1) last year. Congress made critical investments in the farm safety net in previous legislation, but H.R. 7567 spans all 12 titles of the farm bill and remains essential to supporting the rice industry and rural communities.
The week kicked off with the House Rules Committee meeting throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday, debating 371 amendments to the House Agriculture Committee's advanced farm bill. Of those amendments, 57 were included in the rule advanced by the Rules Committee on Tuesday evening by a vote of 9-4.
Ultimately, the full House considered and adopted 49 amendments to the farm bill, which passed on Thursday morning by a bipartisan vote of 224 to 200.
“USA Rice applauds Chairman Glenn 'GT' Thompson for his leadership, optimism, and commitment to getting a farm bill done,” said Fred Zaunbrecher, Louisiana rice farmer and chair of the USA Rice Farmers Board. “Throughout the process, he has been engaged, and we are glad this legislation includes many priorities that support rice farmers. More work remains to be done to get this bill signed into law and to support the rice industry amid current economic challenges. Thank you to everyone who supported passage of the Farm, Food, and National Security Act today.”
In the lead-up to the full House vote, USA Rice joined 338 agricultural organizations supporting the swift advancement of H.R. 7567, which was sent to House Speaker Mike Johnson, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and all members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The full letter can be found here.
Additionally, USA Rice sent a letter of support to Thompson and Ranking Member Angie Craig (D-MN), expressing support for the legislation and highlighting key rice provisions included in the bill's base text (see USA Rice Daily, February 26, 2026, and USA Rice Daily, March 5, 2026).
