• Louisiana Rice Farmers Announce Plans for State Meetings

    The Louisiana Rice Council (LARC) and the Louisiana Rice Growers Association (LARGA), Louisiana’s two largest grower organizations, have scheduled their annual joint membership meeting for Tuesday, February 2. The meeting will be held at the Grande Marais Center here, and will open with a trade show and reception at 4 p.m. followed by the program at 5:45 p.m. Dinner will be served. Full story
  • USDA Logo WASDE Report Released

    The U.S. 2015/16 all rice crop is projected at 192.3 million cwt, up 1.6 million from last month. Long-grain production is up 700,000 cwt to 133 million, and medium- and short-grain is raised 900,000 cwt to 59.3 million. The all rice production increase stems from both higher harvested area and yield. The all rice yield increased 47 pounds per acre to 7,470, and harvested area increased 5,000 acres to 2.58 million.     USA Rice chefs and representatives took advantage of Sunday being a major family shopping day in Mexico to set up a cooking demonstration event at a Sam’s Club here yesterday. About 75 shoppers crowded around as two USA Rice chefs and two assistant chefs pulled from the audience cooked three very different dishes featuring U.S.-grown rice. Full story

    MEXICALI, MEXICO -- On December 14, 2015, USA Rice was notified that U.S. rice exporters were having their bagged rice shipments blocked by Mexican authorities here at this important west coast crossing point with Calexico, California. The Government of Mexico (GOM) had, overnight, changed inspection regulations on how railroads and GOM phytosanitary inspection officials cleared bagged commodities, resulting in a stoppage of bagged rice exports.
